How we met
We actually met via Tinder, when the app launched! However, it took us over a month to actually meet in person.
For our first date we drove down to the Coast for a day at the beach. Looking back, I should have been nervous to drive 1.5 hours with someone I hardly knew, but as soon as I jumped in the car it was like we had known each other for years.
Our engagement story
The proposal came as a complete surprise! Frank popped the question on the weekend before we were due to fly out to Greece on a Euro holiday which meant I was completely distracted.
The Saturday started out like most others, a day at the beach, followed by an afternoon at Norries Point watching the surfers before sunset. Out of nowhere, Frank pulled out a ring and proposed. I was so shocked, but out of excitement I grabbed the ring from his hand and placed it on my finger before he could finish proposing. It was the happiest day of my life!
The proposal was made even more special when I found out Frank had designed the ring himself and had it handmade by his best friend in South Africa (who is a manufacturing jeweller). I absolutely love it! Frank also had his wedding band made by his friend.
Finding a dress was my least favourite part of the process. Despite watching numerous seasons of “Say Yes to the Dress”, I never pictured myself in a traditional wedding dress. I spent many weekends in Melbourne bridal shops trying on gown after gown but none quite felt right.
One weekend Frank and I were at a cafe down the Coast and the store “Grace Loves Lace” was next-door. I quickly ducked in to see if they had any appointments that morning, which they did. I ended up trying on the Dove Gown. It was exactly what I wanted - simple, timeless and chic.
Given the relaxed nature of the day, I opted for soft curls and natural makeup.
Shannon from The Future Mrs was an absolute dream to work with.
On the day I wore a pair of flat Valentino shoes and a gorgeous pair of custom gold pearl hoops a good friend had handmade for me.
Frank's suit was from Politix and his shoes from Florsheim.
Our wedding venue
We had always loved the idea of a destination wedding, however, when it came down to the planning, the logistics were a nightmare and we agreed on a local wedding.
We really wanted our wedding location to be somewhere our guests could come and relax for the weekend and for us all to be together. We decided on a small coastal wedding at Cabarita Beach. It holds so many memories for us and we couldn’t wait to share our little piece of paradise with those closest to us.
One weekend while staying at Halcyon House, there was a small wedding taking place in the courtyard. It was exactly what we wanted and the next weekend I spoke with the Events Coordinator and locked it in.
I walked down the aisle to to ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ sung acoustically by our musician Chris Sheehy.
Our vision was an intimate beachside ceremony with our closest friends and family, followed by a relaxed afternoon in the sun.
I spent many nights scrolling through wedding blogs and Instagram until it all became too overwhelming. That’s when I found Emma (For Love & Living ). Together we created a mood board and she helped bring my vision to life.
How would you describe in a few words the style of your day?
Relaxed, Romantic and Intimate.
The colour palette
I leaned on Emma for her expertise with the colour palette. We decided on a soft colour palette of beautiful blush tones and lush green foliage. The colours, paired with other styling elements created the soft romantic feel we had hoped for.
Food & Beverage
Our Food and Beverage was really important to us. We chose a share styled menu which allowed each guest to try a selection of different dishes.
Following the ceremony, guests were served drinks in the courtyard and a selection of canapes including oysters, smoked fish and melon wrapped in prosciutto. Guests then sat down for a shared style three course dinner.
To start we had rye sourdough with cultured butter and crunchy chickpea dip with seaweed chips. Entree followed with fish crudo, grilled vongole and clams and Jamon Iberico served with summer melon and flat bread.
For mains we served kelp roasted fish, lamb neck and wood fired sugarloaf cabbage with sides of shaved broccoli, celery, almond and smoked grape and warm Congo potatoes with rosemary and salted ricotta.
Dessert was also served shared and included daintree milk chocolate cannoli with raspberry sorbet and a banana custard with malt parfait and candied pecan. We also included cheese platters for those who don’t have a sweet tooth.
A memorable moment
We surprised our families by organising accommodation at the venue in the lead up to, and following the wedding. My family is scattered across Australia and Franks Aunty, Brother and his Girlfriend live in South Africa, so it was extra special having everyone in the same place. We enjoyed breakfasts, sun soaked days by the pool and dinners together as one big family.
If I could give one piece of advice to other brides to be it would be.
The day is over before you know it - stop and take in every moment. It’s such an amazing time and you want to be able to have amazing memories.
Pick the things that matter to you both and invest your energy and budget there. Also, Excel spreadsheets will become your best friend.
